Work in Progress Wednesday

Jeremey is on holiday this week, so he’s left Tony the keys to the WIP Wednesday post…

We’ll start off with Chairman Mark’s fine collection of 28mm Shermans that he’s been working on for a while, building up towards a big Nijmegen game later this year. There’s been a bit of rivalry at the club over who has the biggest Sherman collection – we suspect Phil is still ahead, with Dave also a strong contender, but Mark’s catching up…

He’s also added a British half-track (likely an M5) and Daimler armoured car, a German bunker and some anti-tank guns (type unspecified, but some internet research points at them being 50mm Pak 38s).

Eric has been turning yet more Matchbox cars into wasteland warriors for a Gaslands game with all manner of add-ons and accessories. The one on the right with exposed wheels looks especially cool.

Stephen has made some 15mm objective markers for Vietnam games, which should also serve for WW2. I suspect a few of us will be hunting for those in an upcoming game of Charlie Don’t Surf.

And finally, I quickly turned out some individually based figures to act as Big Men (NCOs and officers) for a game of TFL’s Quadrant 13. They’re only 6mm, so really they should be Little Men. Or Little Big Men ?

Jeremey will be back next week, you’ll doubtless be pleased to hear !

Work in Progress Wednesday

Welcome to our Work in Progress Wednesday post. We have a very mixed bag of projects this week. Firstly Phil has continued with his Orc Horde, He’s starting to get that mass ranks look.

Moving on and Andy has managed to regain his painting mojo by slapping some paint on a Games Workshop Necron miniature. We will no doudt be running into this one during a game of Stargrave.

Talking of Stargrave and I have also started to regain my painting mojo, I’ve not picked up the brushes for a good 4 or 5 months. I’ve purchased my first 3D printed miniatures to act as my crew in Stargrave. I’m not starting a new crew just refreshing the miniatures used.

I’ve also managed to put together two simple conversions of Mechs for my 3mm sci fi forces. The missile pods are from a Dropzone Commander miniature.

We now have a very early project, Stephen has acquired yet another card packing piece that will soon become another sci-fi building for his growing collection.

And out of left field Tony F picked up this food silicone tray. It’s designed for chocolates but Tony has added some resin to create some objective markers.

That’s it for this week end we will see you at the next one.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Welcome to another work in progress Wednesday. We start this week with Mark J and yet more Shermans, I don’t know how many he is planning to do but it has sparked a Sherman bragging contest, I think the winning bid was 65 Sherman miniatures although in 10mm scale.

Next up and Eric has been painting some fantasy celtic warriors. Liking the flesh tones on these.

And of course a shot from the front of the warriors.

Tony F has been plucking random things from the lead pile to finish up. This ones a bit of a cheat but interesting. Apparently this is a pre-painted model truck, Tony has added an ink wash to make it look used. It’s perfect for a number of early 20th century games.

And some English policemen, not sure why Tony has these, clearly an impule buy at some point in the past.

And we finish off this week with some Pulp sci-fi from Marcus. I think these are going bright colours as is entirely appropriate for the genre.

And with that we will see you next week.

Work in Progress Wednesday

It’s Wednesday again and we start this week with Stephen and an A-7 Corsair, 1/100th scale ready for duty over Vietnam.

Stephen also managed to pick up a Warhammer 40K walker, that he stripped of the over abundance of insignia to make it more generic for various sci-fi games.

Next up and continuing with the walker theme, Tony F has repainted an old plastic Star Wars toy droid as this rather wonderful sci-fi JCB vehicle.

Moving on and Phil has made some more progress on his 10mm Mordor orcs, I think this represents about 1% of what’s planned!

We finished up with more miniatures from Marcus. Firstly some more Celtos orcs.

And the start of some Barsoom miniatures.

And with that we will see you next Wednesday.

Work in Progress Wednesday

And we’re back with our normal Work in Progress Wednesday posts.

First up and Mark J has been painting up a 3D printed Sherman tank. This is going to be for a big Nijmegen game.

Moving on and Marcus managed to paint up some more miniatures that we saw at his Open Day game. Firstly some Celtos miniatures, some beastmen, orc champion and a barbarian.

Not sure who makes these miniatures, but we have three more mean looking beasts.

Stephen has been busy tinkering and has come up with a mobile gun platform for his Quar captain.

And by chopping up a couple of other miniatures created this fetching sniper.

And finally for this week Tony F picked up some scatter terrain at a wargame show and got to work. Not sure what he plans for the Mini we’ll have to wait and see.

See you next Wednesday.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Welcome to another Work in Progress Wednesday. It’s very sunny here so progress might slow down a bit. I know I’m struggling to get projects done.

But this week we start with Phil who is putting the finishing touches to a gate to Moria for a Lord of the Rings game, and sticking with the Lord of the Rings theme but in a different scale with some 10mm Orcs.

Next up and Mark J has been putting the finishing touches to a universal carrier.

Returning to the Lord of the Rings theme and Tony F has been painting up more dwarves, no doubt with an eye on that gate.

And finally for this week Eric has been busy with a rune incrusted Wyrdstone.

And some miniatures referred to as Skullswords from a Kickstarter.

And with that we will see you next week.

2025 Open Day this Saturday (28th June)

There are just three more days to go before our Open Day this Saturday (28th June). This is a great time to come and see the Maidstone Wargames Society in action.
Details of how to find us on the day are on out About us page. The open day runs from 11am to 4pm so come down to introduce yourself to the society, re-ignite your passion for miniature wargaming or to find out what it’s all about and if it’s the hobby for you.

We also have a last minute update from member David, he’s been preparing a large number of vehicles for a 15mm alternative history game. We cannot wait to see the result and the terrain they will be on.

And don’t forget we have other games running on the day:

28mm Vietnam Game

28mm Fantasy Adventure Game

28mm Lord of the Rings Battle

28mm Barons War Game

And we will have a WW2 6mm game of Spearhead on the day.

We’re open to the public from 11am – 4pm on the day, hope to see you there.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Welcome to another work in progress Wednesday. We start this week with Peter M and another amazing scratchbuild. Peter has been mixing and matching with various models to create a new spaceship. Can you guess what the parts are?

Next up and Tony F has been putting the final touches to some 6mm buildings for a Hammers Slammers game. I think he can stop now.

For the same game Tony has also painted up some 6mm Hindi faction forces.

We move on to Marcus who has made progress on his tower for Frostgrave.

Complete with interior staircase and additional scenic pieces for the roof.

And lastly for this week, I discovered and old miniature I’d forgotten I had, the old Ral Partha D&D Ettin miniature, I plan to strip the 30+ year old paint and start again.

And that’s it for this week, we will see you at the next work in progress Wednesday.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Welcome to another work in progress post. This week we start with Marcus and some Denizens for the Labyrinth appearing at the Open Day later this month. He has also been busy scratchbuilding a tower for Frostgrave. Apparently this is one of three to be constructed.

Moving on and Tony F is also busy painting for an upcoming game, although I believe these are for a 6mm Hammers Slammers game at the Broadside wargames show this Saturday.

First up we have a small 6mm town which will be a likely objective in the game.

There will also be lots of wooded areas apparently, well you need to break up those lines of sight.

And finally from Tony F some monorail tracks.

Last but not least for this week and Phil has been painting some more 10mm orcs, it’s becoming a nice looking horde, but a little bird tells me he is supposed to be sorting out his 28mm orcs for his open day game!

That’s it for this week, we’ll see you next Wednesday.

Work in Progress Wednesday

Back to our work in progress this week and we start with Mark J and some Microart Studio MDF buildings for a future game of Chain of Command.

Next up and Tony F has been scratchbuilding 6mm storage tanks from IKEA doorknobs.

Moving on and Stephen has been covering a few genres, first by finishing his sci-fi cantina, complete with droid server.

And some resplendent 15mm medieval knights, a great chance to add some bright colours to miniatures.

And with that we will see you next week.
